"Carma, Raphael and I wish you wonderful success on your Trek!"
I donated in support of this campaign.
7 years ago my older sister Elena was having medical issues and she could not figure out what was happening. It was hard to see a loved one deteriorate before your eyes and not be able to help. Elena was diagnosed with Parkinson 's disease in 2011. In 2014 as a family we decided to hike Potato Chip Rock in Poway. 22 of us choose the hottest day of the year and started our walk up the windy, hilly, switchback trials. It took a bit longer than normal to reach the top where we took this wonderful picture, all 4 sisters made it to the top, Elena, Angela, Linda and myself. Getting down was a different story, the heat along with the long climb down, Elena started to struggle. A normal 2 hour downward climb turned into 4 hours with Elena almost not making it down.
In 2015 Elena joined the Summit for Stem Cell trek to climb Machu Picchu to raise awareness and money for Parkinson's. Along with raising money and awareness Elena's training built up her strength and endurance for a successful hike up Machu Picchu, a steeper climb than Potato Chip Rock!!! She completed the 8 day walk and was ready to keep going. 2018 the Summit for Stem Cell Trek is taking her to the Camino de Santiago trek in Spain. A walk that means a lot to our family since our Father is from Spain.
Through the years Elena became educated about the disease. With medicine she is able to combat the disease along with diet and exercise but that is not a cure. There is no cure for Parkinson's today but through your help and the generous support of many people as well as the Camino Santiago Trek Walk we can move closer to a treatment to combat the debilitating symptoms. I have committed to walk this trek with her and need your help to reach my goal of raising $2,500.00. Over 90% of your dollars goes straight to Parkinson's research. Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Summit for Stem Cell Foundation
